CHORAL ENSEMBLE DESCRIPTIONS:

1). “Concert Choir” is 9th period Choir; responsible for mandatory IHS Winter and Spring Concert performances along with class participation and attendance (see Course Syllabus on Fusion Page).

2). The “Interboro Singers” is the group formerly known as “Cantabile” or the “Select Choir.” This group is an auditioned group. Students MUST be registered for 9th period “Concert Choir” + attend two "Glee Ensemble" IHS performances and some of their rehearsals to participate in this ensemble.

3). The “Glee Ensemble” is our high school’s brand new non-auditioned performing group of singers and instrumentalists under the direction of Ms. Bowe and Mr. Friel. This ensemble is a club, like the IHS Marching Band.

4). “PMEA Chorus” - the "Pennsylvania Music Educator's Association Chorus" is an auditioned group of student vocalists across the state on three levels of competition: District 12, Region 6, and finally, All-State Choir. Auditions are highly competitive and are recommended for students interested in majoring in Music Performance/Education in college for their college applications and high school professional musical experience. Interboro students interested in auditioning for “PMEA” MUST be registered for 9th period “Concert Choir” and be in the “Interboro Singers” auditioned choral ensemble. You may NOT audition for PMEA District 12 Chorus without a blind audition with Ms. Bowe first, as only one or two students per voice part from grades 11-12 (girls) and grades 10-12 (boys) may audition per school year. Ms. Bowe has reserved an allotted time on specific Thursday evenings from 4 - 5 PM for students auditioning towards PMEA to optionally rehearse and practice their music with her in the Choir Room.

Welcome to the Interboro High School Music Department! Please see Ms. Bowe’s Music Fusion Page to access important Course Syllabi, Course and Ensemble Announcements, Schedules or changes in schedules, Rehearsal Guides, Music Theory Training websites, etc. Coursework, Projects, and Homework, in cases of excused absences, are accessible via hard copies through Ms. Bowe.

Parents & Guardians:

If you have any questions about enrolling your student in the high school music program, music lessons, questions about musical instruments, or music participation/collegiate/professional studies post-graduation, please contact Ms. Bowe at marsha.bowe@interborosd.org. Colleges look favorably upon a sustained commitment to the arts!

It is recommended that you track your student’s grades every Monday to view their status from the prior week. If your student had an excused absence, they have until that Friday to make up last week's missed work. A new, updated grade will then be entered the following weekend in TEMS.

Extra Help: Not every student is expected to master all of the course material during class time. You may come after school to practice on your own until 3 PM if the teacher is present inside the classroom. You may not be inside the classroom if a music teacher is not present, as many students store instruments inside this classroom. Additionally, after school help is available to you on an appointment-basis with the teacher. Please take the initiative to seek extra help as soon as you need it so you don’t fall behind in the course or ensemble. I am here to help! To book an appointment with me, please talk to me 5 minutes before the end of our class together or e-mail me at Bowe.2013.2014.MusicClasses@gmail.com .

Welcome to the Interboro High School Music Department!

THANK YOU for choosing to be a Musician - an Interboro Musician. Music Education opens doors that help you pass from school into the world around you - a world of work, culture, intellectual activity, and community involvement no matter what path of study you take post-graduation.

You will be able to enter and exit this classroom with the idea that your whole life is a “Gig”. Studying Music encourages self-discipline and diligence; traits that carry over into intellectual pursuits that lead to effective study and work habits. You will network with your peers and mentors, you will build relationships, you will build a solid work ethic, you will make curious connections and comparisons, you will build respect for yourself and for your fellow musicians, and you will develop your character. We will focus on building these skills in my classroom and on the stage every day.

“Casals says music fills him with the wonder of life and the ‘incredible marvel’ of being a human. Ives says it expands his mind and challenges him to be a true individual. Bernstein says it is enriching and ennobling. To me, that sounds like a good cause for making music and the arts an integral part of every child’s education. Studying music and the arts elevates children’s education, expands students’ horizons, and teaches them to appreciate the wonder of life.” - US Secretary of Education, Richard W. Riley, 1999

Get ready for a fantastic year of learning and development with EXCELLENCE AND BUC PRIDE ! ! ! ! !
